In a hinge unit which connects the members of articulated power vehicles such as tractors and which permits mutual pivotal movements of such members about a vertical and a horizontal axis, a front member is attached to a forward portion of the vehicle and a rear member is attached to a trailing portion of the vehicle while the front member and the rear member are interconnected by an intermediate member which is supported by a pair of bearings defining a vertical axis on the front member and by another pair of bearings defining a horizontal axis on the rear member, all three members forming together a universal or cardan joint.

(54) HINGE CONNECTION FOR MAGNETIC TRANSPORT FACILITIES

The articulation 1 is mounted on an articulated vehicle 2, which consists of a front 3 and rear 4 sections.
To rotate the section, there is a pair of control cylinders 5, each of which has a piston rod 7 or 8. The cylinders 5 and b are connected by means of hinged fingers 9 and 10 with a pair of brackets 11 and 12. The outer ends of the rods 7 and 8 are hingedly connected by pivot pins 13 and 14 with brackets 15 and 16.
Swivel 1 consists of front 17, rear 18 and intermediate 19 links, which are interconnected by hinges with a vertical axis of rotation. Y - Y and hinges with a horizontal axis of rotation Х-х.
For the suspension of intermediate link 19 in the front link 17 and in the back link 18 there are ball joints that are arranged in pairs along the axes X-X and U-Y. Two noBOHPOTHfja supports 20 and 21 (Fig. 4) are located along the axis U-U and are attached to the brackets 22 and 23 on link 17. Along the horizontal axis X-X, rotary supports 24 and 25 are provided, with the support 24 being supported by the bracket 26 rear link 18, and the support 25 is installed in the housing of the rear link 18.
The pivot pin 27 carries the sleeve 28, which with the bracket 29 of the intermediate link 19 encloses the ball joint 30. The ball joint 30 is fixed in its position by means of the plug 31. The axial forces are transmitted through the arm 32 of the bracket 29 to the ball joint 30, as it is on the sleeve 28. The sleeve 28 rests on the cold 33, which has an inwardly protruding edge 34. On the front section 3 and on the rear section 4 at an angle of 30 to each other, stop surfaces 41 and 42, 43 and 44 are made to restrict reciprocal rotary movements around the vertical axis U-Y. Similar thrust surfaces may be provided.

On the other hand, sections 3. and 4 can rotate horizontally relative to each other around the vertical axis U-U, and the vertical axis U-U also passes through an imaginary point of intersection with the axis X. When driving, cylinders 5 and b are pushed due to the steering wheel in the driver’s cab. or retract. If the steering wheel is turned to the right, then the control cylinders provide for turning sections 3 and 4 against each other, in which the articulated vehicle 2 makes a right turn.
The vertical axis V-V of all rotations passes through an imaginary intersection point, so that it does not have any effect on the mutual deviations of sections 3 and 4 around the horizontal axis XX.
The described joint is compact, lightweight, low cost and allows all sections to be rotated relative to each other, driven by uneven terrain — or control with a minimum length of power levers, which ensures reliable operation and efficient use of forward 1Pl.
